Welcome, fellow traveler! Let us take you on a magical journey to the Joshua Tree National Park, a meeting place for two wildly different ecosystems – the Mojave Desert and Colorado wildlife, creating a harmony unlike anything you’ve ever seen. It is the place to broaden your horizons, become more mindful, take a desert bath or have a go at rock climbing. The park is located in South-West California, East of San Bernardino and Los Angeles, north of Palm Springs. What makes this place so special?
The legend of Joshua
The origin of Joshua Tree National Park’s name is rooted in both history and legend. One of the stories claims that in mid-19th century, Mormon settlers have crossed the Colorado River while looking for their new Eden. According to legend, they were the ones to name Joshua trees. Their branches, reaching the sky as if in never-ending prayer, reminded them of the biblical Joshua, who led the children of Israel on their conquest of Kanaan.
Spectacular rock formations
The park is known for its unique rock formations. Climbing some of these walls is a real challenge even to the most experienced climbers. However, fear not – there are spots even amateurs are able to conquer, and if climbing is not your thing, you can at least take a photo next to these giant, impressive boulders. Some of these shapes are like ancient statues, a testament to the incredible force of nature. And, since it’s a wild and unforgiving environment, you can even find some human skulls in the sand…
Desert night skies
The night sky at the Joshua Tree National Park is worth the trip alone. It’s so dark here that stars seem to be coming at you, and staging an incredible show just for you. Bring a telescope and prepare for a journey into space unlike anything you’ve ever seen. You can watch entire constellations, planets and even a fly-by of the International Space Station. The views beyond are simply to die for.
Tree? What tree?
Joshua Trees look like something taken straight out of a movie about alien civilizations. Their branches bend and create bizarre shapes, animated by gusts of wind. Walking among the trees, you will be transported to another dimension. They can grow as high as 12 meters, reach trunk circumference of 3.5m, and live up to even 900 years. Another surprising fact is that these “trees” aren’t really trees, but rather perennials, as their trunks do not have growth rings.
A wildlife oasis
Many species call the Joshua Tree National Park their home. Owing it to its desert environment, most animals go out at night while preferring to sleep in the shade or burrow in the ground during the day to hide from the unforgiving sun. Observant travelers will spot lizards, hawks, owls, woodpeckers, snakes, turtles, racoons, and hares.
Stylish outdoors
You don’t have to make any sacrifices to travel the Joshua Tree National Park. Accommodation in the park can also be a luxury – our recommendation is the AutoCamp mobile home, based on the cult classic, the slick Airstream camper.

Boundless mindfulness
Faced with boundless nature, it’s easy to stop for a while, take a deep breath and truly appreciate the beauty of the world. Joshua Tree is a perfect place to meditate and reflect. Here, far from the hustle and bustle o the city, you will be able to immerse yourself in peace and quiet. This could be the one mindfulness lesson you will cherish for the rest of your life. Let us take you into the desert landscape and let Joshua Tree inspire you. And if, by any chance, you meet a Joshua there, tell us we said hi!
